Cranky on the Web: Frontier’s Short Window, Avelo’s Pivot

Frontier Airlines is not selling tickets for flights beyond April 13. Why?ABC27

Airline Weekly founder Seth Kaplan is asking the question many of us have been asking for awhile. Why is it that Frontier is only selling tickets for travel through April 13? There aren’t really any good explanations. The best reason would be if Frontier was working on a radical change to its schedule and didn’t want to put something out it knew would be significantly altered. But Frontier has never had qualms about making sweeping changes to its schedule week-in and week-out so that explanation falls flat for the airline.

Avelo shuts down two bases in NC, stops deportation flights from ArizonaNC Newsline

A North Carolina-centric look at Avelo’s changes shows a tale of two states. The western half is happy as Concord stays a base while the eastern half is not as both the RDU and Wilmington bases shut down.

Not much, if you ask me. But hey, they always try and find a local angle in these things.

I am on the road for a couple of weeks, so Brian and Jon are leading the charge on The Air Show. This week, they both went to check out the new JSX ATR turboprop and had plenty to say about their thoughts on the airline’s plans.

Bill – Geez, I guess this is what happens when you try to throw this together on vacation. Fixed the title but I left the link the same so nobody has to go searching

How young are Brian and Jon? Both seemed to have no memory of the American Eagle ATR crash over Indiana. That crash still makes me think twice about flying one of those in the colder times of the year. There are airlines in Canada that still fly them instead of the Dash 8.

southbay – Jon mentioned the Roselawn accident in passing on the show, saying that perhaps there was a new generation that wouldn’t have those same concerns now. But I definitely remember that one.

There was an ATR crash in icing conditions in Brazil in 2024.

They improved the response but there are still very strict guidelines for icing conditions. There were apparently some mistakes made in Brazil.

Not sure I’d get one if icing was a possibility.
