Cranky on the Web: Spirit in South Florida, A Poor Cranky Dorkfest Article

Broward-based Spirit Airlines plans major cost cuts amid second bankruptcy in a yearCBS News Miami
The local CBS station in South Florida reached out to me to come and talk about what is happening with Spirit. The airline’s president put a memo out saying that capacity would be down 25 percent year-over-year in November. That’s a bit misleading since the schedule is already down about 13 percent, but it’s still a significant additional drop that’s coming. But in South Florida, Fort Lauderdale has to be the crown jewel of any Spirit that can exit bankruptcy. So people there are more interested than most about the fate of the carrier.

Cranky Dorkfest comes to LAXKTLA Los Angeles
I’m normally thrilled to get coverage of Cranky Dorkfest, and there was certainly plenty of chatter on social media and elsewhere after last week’s successful event. But this article from local station KTLA was just absolute garbage. It makes it sound like LAX is the one that organizes the event, and there is no mention of anything that might suggest otherwise. Not cool.

Media not getting their facts straight? I’m shocked.

KTLA has gone down the tubes since Hal Fishman died

Bill – It’s still my go-to for local news in general, but man I still miss Hal. That guy just worked and worked and you couldn’t help but trust him. It was quite the shock when he wasn’t on the air one day and then he was dead soon after. He worked until the very end despite being sick.

BUT… let’s not forget the late Stan Chambers and Larry McCormick. Both legends in their own right.

Now you got that funky 80s theme in my head! What a team.

And yeah LAX PR set this in motion with that press release.

Sounds like the folks that they spoke to at LAX didn’t lead them in a different direction either!

Wonder who informed KTLA to cover the story. They need to do their research before airing.

“Journalists” don’t exist any more. Today’s “content creators” are just tools for advertising or obtaining data (your data, naturally, to be aggregated and sold), and/or parroting a viewpoint. That includes all of the media.

It was lifted straight out of a standard press release from LAWA, which KTLA dutifully treated like as any mainstream media stenographer would. No interview required. They spoke with nobody, which is how this has increasingly worked for decades. This is 100% on Vanessa Rodriguez (and/or her intern) at LAWA.

Unfortunately that’s the news for you. Both the national news and local news. Always lying, messing up facts, or reporting out of context. It’s one of the reasons I don’t watch the news anymore.
I for one had a great time a crankydork fest. It was my first time as I’m usually in Alaska camping every Sept. This year the trip didn’t happen so I got to attend. I thank you for all the efforts going into the event. The ramp tour sounded awesome (although I registered too late) and the giveaways were amazing. I didn’t win but I was really super at the amount of them. Thanks for putting this even on. The news should have reported how LAX decided to shut down the right runway during the event. Out of all days they picked dork fest

It looks like both the airport’s public relations department and the TV station didn’t do their homework. Didn’t either one think to ask why the event is named the CRANKY Dorkfest???? That seems like an odd name for an event sponsored by an airport, right????
