2025 Flying Summary

It’s the end of another year, and I did some good flying this year, but I just didn’t do that much of it. With the exception of a Hawaiʻi trip, it was entirely a year of going up and down the coast. But on the other hand, I am now the proud owner of Atmos Silver status which is worth… well, probably not much, but I achieved the goal and can now move on.

Biggest flying year yet. Made it to Premier 1K for the first time (all flown miles). Fun highlights were doing part of the Milk Run in Alaska, and experiencing the A340-600 just before it gets retired from the LH fleet.

Here’s mine for the year, still don’t fully know how to count my one trip SBN to ORD in these stats via Landline where I missed my connection in ORD and got American Airlines to put me up in the Westin because the bus was late and stuck in traffic, and got them to rebook me to Martha’s Vineyard via Cape Air, my actual destination (flying the Cessna 402 is tied as my favorite flight of the year with getting to ride in the Upper Deck of a 747 on Lufthansa), instead of Providence from where I was planning to take the ferry:

Miles: 34,863 (only by air, add ~120 road miles on board the American Airlines Landline Bus SBN to ORD)
Segments: 31 (or 32 if my AA Landline segment that never left the ground counts)
    New Aircraft: A220, ATR 72-500, ERJ-195, 747-8, Cessna 402, (an American Airlines-branded Prevost bus)
New Airlines: Breeze Airways, Air Serbia, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Cape Air, Finnair, (Landline if that counts)
New Airports: Washington-Dulles, St. Kitts and Nevis, Belgrade, Vienna, Berlin, Frankfurt, Boston-Logan, Pittsburgh, Martha’s Vineyard, Helsinki, Riga
Most Common Aircraft: CRJ-900 (6 flights)
Most Common Airline: American Airlines (12 segments)
Most Common Airport: South Bend (6 or 7 departures depending up on if departing on Landline Counts/6 arrivals)
Most Common Non-Directional Route: Washington-Dulles – South Bend (4 segments, a route that only started operating in November 2024!)

I also rode 10,220 miles on Amtrak throughout the year!

      1) It’s fun to see where people travel to, and cool planes they’ve traveled on.
      2) It (hopefully) serves as a reminder to some of us about how our activities negatively affect the planet.

Between FlightMapper and PlaneFinder, the above aircraft counts are precise for once, despite WN birds blurring together. First time since 2020 avoiding the 737-700, and prior to that I think I set foot on one every year since 2008 or so. The -800 OTOH was on all three airlines I used this year (WN, DL, AA)…which means that the majority of WN flights I took were on a MAX8. Also notable: my first (and second, and third) segments on a DL 321neo were this year, and let me just say the passenger experience vs. the AA 321neo is night and day.

Looking forward, I wouldn’t be surprised if Delta wins for segment count next year, thanks to AUS becoming a proper focus city and me probably dropping the WN CC (and AS, and HA). Beyond that, we shall see.

No flights at all this year. Nowhere sounded interesting enough to justify the expense for some reason. Just wasn’t feeling the urge to go anywhere.
