Cranky on the Web: Indian Dreams and Field Hockey

Yes, this is the strangest weekly round-up I’ve ever written. If you’re looking for good airline-related content, you may just want to skip to The Air Show down below. But if you’re looking to expand your horizons, well, get ready.

How RDU could land a nonstop flight to IndiaBusiness Journals

Yes, this is a real article. I’m sorry to say it’s behind a paywall, but I’m just going to give you the secret here.

It can’t.

Others were trying to talk about how this could work with millions of dollars of incentive support, but I’ll stand by my quote.

Brett Snyder, founder of Cranky Flier, said RDU has “virtually no chance” of an India flight in the near future. “The U.S. airlines will serve India when feasible from their hubs, and RDU is not a hub,” he said. “So it would require an Indian airline to step up, and Indian airlines have far higher priorities.”

The 2025 Pitchies!Pitch Session

You all know and love Andrew for his moment of levity and the Cranky Weekly Review, but did you know that he has an alter ego as a world-renowned expert and podcaster focusing on women’s field hockey? He and his co-host Kirstin — who those of you who attended the Cranky Network Awards last year may have met — break down the important field hockey news every week during the fall season on Pitch Session. I knew nothing about field hockey until I started listening, and now I’m hooked on the pod despite still pretty much knowing nothing.

The season is now over, and this week Andrew and Kirstin handed out the Pitchies, awarding the best in field hockey. I was invited on as a special guest to award the MVP of the MPSF, the most important conference in all of the land. Why? Great question. There isn’t a clear answer other than I’m pretty sure I’m the biggest MPSF fan there is. If you want to know why, well, you’ll just have to listen in. Oh, and if you work for KLM, let me know. There are opportunities for you here.

My part starts at 58:20, but at the very least you should start at 34:36 to hear about the story of the year which involves mass food poisoning. But why not start at the beginning? You might find yourself hooked to Pitch Session as well.

Last week’s podcast went live late, so I never had the chance to link to it. But now, you can go back and hear Jon Ostrower tell us all about his adventures in Dubai at the air show. There was a lot to discuss around Emirates, flyDubai, but perhaps most interestingly… COMAC? Yep.

And then, stick around for this week’s episode where Jon and Brian interview Condor CEO Peter Gerber. There’s an airline that’s had a rather interesting path over the last few years, so I know I was interested in hearing just exactly what he had to say myself.
