The 10 Cranky Posts With the Most Comments

Cranky 10

We’ve already looked at posts with the most page views, but now let’s look at the ones that have the most comments. I eliminated contests where people had to leave a comment in order to participate, because that’s just cheating. Instead, here’s what bubbled to the top, starting with number ten.

10) US Airways Pilots Union Earns a Long Overdue Cranky Jackass Award For Using Safety as a Negotiation Tactic (July 28, 2011 – 127 comments): You know that a good post about labor is always going to get people riled up. and a post about a union that is already at war with itself? There are plenty of opinions to go around on all sides.

9) Topic of the Week: American’s New Livery (January 18, 2013 – 134 comments): Is anyone surprised by this? Any new livery is going to generate buzz, but American’s new livery? Get two airline dorks in a room today and it’ll still generate some heat.

8) US Department of Justice Gets a Cranky Jackass Award for Its Lawsuit to Stop the US Airways/American Merger (August 14, 2013 – 135 comments): When the DOJ got involved in the American/US Airways merger, I was all over the numbers. And that most certainly spurred a lot of discussion about whether this should or should not have been approved.

7) Breaking Down the DOJ’s Weak Objections to the American/US Airways Merger (August 15, 2013 – 140 comments): Apparently, I should just write about American if I want to get a conversation started. This one was a companion to the previous one, and it ended up getting even more comments than the other.

6) Topic of the Week: Upgrading with a Baby (February 24, 2012 – 144 comments): Everyone has an opinion about traveling with kids, and so any time I’ve brought up that topic, it has left us with a bulging comments section. This one had the most discussion of all.

5) American’s Flight Attendants Have Just Screwed Themselves (November 11, 2014 – 145 comments): And you thought we were done with American. Nay. This post about the flight attendants making a poor choice really pissed a lot of people off. This was certainly a lively discussion.

4) The Good and Bad of Southwest’s EarlyBird Check-In (September 4, 2009 – 162 comments): This one was also on the “top posts” list for page views. In the comments? It’s mostly just a whole lot of complaining.

3) How Southwest Determines Your Boarding Card Number, and How You Can Now Jump the Line for $40 (January 24, 2013 – 199 comments): Spoiler alert – this is also full people complaining about Southwest’s boarding process.

2) Blaming United’s Problems on Continental (or Vice Versa) is Exactly the Problem (July 10, 2014 – 241 comments): This post really sparked people who wanted to comment about the state of affairs at United. If there was any doubt that there was passion hiding at the airline, this should clear that up.

1) Family Airlines Gets Smacked by the DOT (August 19, 2009 – 316 comments): And the winner is… exactly what long time readers of the blog would expect. This Family Airlines post took on a life of its own when one of the unpaid execs started chiming in with comments of his own. He generously offered his thoughts, and people really responded. If you want a good read, I’d highly recommend flipping through.

  1. Yes I knew what would be #1 here, and it could true since 747s are being removed from service more and more so could be picked up cheaply. :-)

I don’t remember if I commented on all these posts, but do know I posted on the AA livery and how I didn’t like it. But it’s getting from Point A to Point B that matters and not how the airplane is painted…..But I still don’t like it.

    1. But we like watching planes too, so it’s a bonus when they’re painted in an attractive scheme. Some great liveries of the past: Pan Am “billboard”, United “Friendly Skies”… and AA. Yes, it’s a shame that AA abandoned their classic livery for the new cheap-looking design. Sometimes a new livery takes a while to appreciate… but I still don’t like AA’s new look, nor SWA’s.

  2. UA and CO, July, 2014.

OK, today? UA to CO folks and vice versa: “We love you!” NOT! Or, am I just reading everything wrong?
