Topic of the Week: 2015 Flying Summary

Miscellaneous

It’s the end of the year, so let’s see how we all did. My total mileage was up thanks to the Japan trip in May. It was good to get back into some international flying with a couple of trips, but the ANA 787 and Singapore A380 on that Japan trip was a clear highlight. I’m also glad to have finally tried the 787, and both variants at that. Here are the stats.

Miles: 37,816 (32,199 last year)
Segments: 31 (33 last year)
New Aircraft: 787-8, 787-9
New Airlines: ANA, Singapore
New Airports: Tokyo/Narita, Lihu’e
Most Common Aircraft: A320 (10 flights)
Most Common Airline: American/US Airways (11 segments)
Most Common Airport: LAX (10 departures/11 arrivals)
Most Common Non-Directional Route: Los Angeles – San Francisco (4 segments)

So far, next year isn’t looking to be a big one, but it’s far too early to know for sure. (The big family trip for next year won’t involve an airplane at all.)

How did your year shape up? And how is next year looking?

  18. Nice round up, newly subscribed to your blog. Making for some good reading!

I only had one flight to Amsterdam and back from Glasgow, UK.

Next year though, got a trip to Australia Via Dubia booked, and pencilled in a trip to New York which i still need to book! So fair chunk of mileage there I guess!

Have a good new year :)

  21. I’m just very happy that airplanes will still exist next year since they were saved with the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank. I had planned on living in a cave next year when society collapsed because the whiny grovellers at Boeing didn’t get its way.

If I wasn’t so loyal to Southwest, I’d purposely fly non-Boeing planes so I could take advantage of foreign tax slaves subsidizing my high-flying lifestyle.

Happy New Year (except to James McNerny)!

      Replace with
“Shortest layover per schedule: -1 minutes. (Yes, negative 1 minute.)”

    2. So the whole thing revised would look like this:

Miles: 5,826 mi (per Great Circle Mapper)

  48. A bit less than last year. Got my first ride on a 787, though it ended up being delayed and I only made the connection from it thanks to Global Entry. Also completed my collection of the E-Jet family with the E-190 (if you include the older models I haven’t been on the EMB-110 and ERJ-135). Also managed to collect all the new airlines on a single trip. Finally, and this is mostly for Cranky, I got my first flight out of Long Beach since 1999 this week; the last time was on WinAir!

  54. Busiest year of flying ever – virtually entirely short haul; gotta reduce for next year. Still going for my target of flying to or from all airports in Europe (except Russia and Belarus) with commercial passenger service. Have decided to widen the scope to riding every passenger airline that flies within Europe as well.
