Is this how we will fly in 2050? Aviation experts share hopes for the futureCNN Twitter Chat
You may have seen the CNN Twitter chat I participated in last Monday to mark the beginning of the Paris Air Show. CNN rolled this up into a summary column on the website, and you can see it at the link above. If you’d like to see the full chat it’s at #CNNLeBourget.

  1. I would like to see a return of supersonic flight, but as long as there are significant noise concerns and there is not a justifiable ticket premium for speed over price, we likely won’t see any new supersonic projects. The focus overwhelmingly will be on reducing, reducing, reducing fuel consumption and emissions, especially as more and more governments tighten the noose on environmental regulations. The reality is, whether you classify it NIMBYISM or not, the ship has sailed on tight regulations of airports and the aviation industry.

  2. I would love to see these types of aircraft in the future. Anything is possible. I have seen many changes that I did not even think would happen in my lifetime. The biggest obstacle is that airlines are profit motivated. They have to have a profitable bottom line or it won’t happen. The oil and fuel industry will put up a fight. This has been that way with cars, but things are already changing there. Tesla has made great breakthroughs in that area and paved the way for more companies to prosper with new technology. The same can happen in the airline industry. It may take a while, but I believe it can happen.

  3. Development of new and exciting ways of crowding more pax into planes. Well, exciting to management at least.

Development of prescription drugs to enable people to be crowded even closer together in economy without having mental breakdowns.
