What is a non-directional route?

  That means that you flew it either way. So I didn’t fly Long Beach – Phoenix 3 times, but instead I flew it twice and Phoenix – Long Beach once. But since I’m calling it a non-directional route, I combine them into one.

It’s amazing what a new position will do to one’s flying. However I already have almost 50% of my 2011 miles booked for just Jan/Feb of 2012. Now we’ll see if it drops off or not.

This non rev king barely flew, a couple short hops to SAN and OAK a RT to BWI, one trip to OGG and one to LIH.

But, I did fill in my Boeing card by getting on a 707 (KC-135R) PHX-ABQ-Andrews AFB R/T.

I miss the days of getting the rare birds on my list, L1011, 747SP, Tu134, Tu135, IL 62M, Fokker F50, F70, F28, F100, MD-11,DC-3. Had a chance at a YS-11, but the airline was so dodgy I flew Lao Aviation instead..

Only tough ones now for me are DC 4,6,7,8, 747-100 -SR, Yak 40

  Seems the only way to get the rare birds anymore is to fly those dodgy airlines in other countries. I guess it’s all a risk reward question, huh?

    Phuket Airlines was so bad that the Laotian Airline looked better. They also had several 747-100’s as well, but, it was a miracle there was no crash.

The one new thing was winning a flight on the Boeing 40C at the Airliners International show in Portland. I didn’t include this flight in the mileage statistic since it took off and landed at the same airport and I don’t know the actual number of miles we flew. It was a lame year for me, unfortunately. I flew more but shorter distances as my flights to India were replaced by short hops like DFW-STL.
