The Brighter Side of a Horrible Airplane Accident

Accidents/Incidents

Picture this. You’re sitting on an airplane in the middle of Africa descending for landing into the city you live. Next thing you know, the plane is lying on the ground, snapped in half, and you don’t quite know what the heck is going on. You stumble out of the airplane where mass chaos ensues. Sounds like a nightmare, right? Absolutely.

So what’s the “brighter side” here? Well, besides that fact that you’re still alive, you also just happened to crash into your front yard. Sweet, no need for a cab to take you home!

Angola M'banza Congo TAAG Plane Crash

Nate Miller had this happen to him when a TAAG Angola 737-200 crashed last June in, well, Angola. A friend of mine who does a lot of good work in Africa met him and forwarded me the story. I was a little skeptical, but you can look through Nate’s photostream on Flickr and see some pretty amazing pictures.

I suppose it sounds plausible enough, but for some reason, I still have trouble fully believing it. Either way, it makes for a great story.

  1. Whole Finland is terrified because of currect happenings in Thailand. Not because of the violence, but because there is at least 150 Finnish still waiting to get back to Finland…

  2. Finland? OK, whatever. In any case, six people were killed in that crash. Seems worth mentioning :)

  4. Your skepticism is understandable, but I assure you, the story is true. If you notice on the truck and house in the background, there is a red logo. That’s the logo of the NGO I worked for at the time and those were my house and my car. Guess it would be hard to verify my seat on the plane, but whatever. The real bright side of the crash was all the attention I got afterward.
