Cranky Dorkfest 2026 RSVPs are Now Open!

Judging by the number of emails I’ve received, I know a lot of you are champing at the bit to get your RSVPs in for Cranky Dorkfest on September 19. I’m happy to say that day has now arrived. If you want to do the morning ramp visit and/or be entered into the giveaway, you have to RSVP. If you don’t care about that stuff, well, just show up!

All these details will be posted on the main Cranky Dorkfest page.

YOU MUST RSVP by the end of the day on Thursday, September 10

Morning LAX Ramp Visit

Once again, LAX is going all out and will be inviting 500 of us to come hang out right next to Taxiway A and watch airplanes outside the Flight Path Museum. This is going to look a lot like last year with the event running from 8am to noon, but there are a couple of notable changes:

  1. There won’t be remote parking this year. There is another lot that we will be able to use within walking distance of the event, but this has limited parking. So, we need to know if you’re driving and how many people will be in your car in your RSVP so we can dole out parking passes when it gets closer.
  2. Instead of using buses for remote parking this year, LAX will be using them to give airfield tours. Stay tuned for more info on that.

Let’s talk details:

  • What: LAX Ramp Visit
  • When: Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 8am to 12pm (but the main event starts at 11am, so… use your time wisely)
  • Where: The ramp outside the Flight Path Museum

I’ve had more than one airline talk about bringing in something special to look at and tour this year. Let’s see if anyone can top American’s Astrojet last year. I think they might. There will be water and restrooms available.

There are only 500 spots available, so RSVP NOW to save your spot.

The Cranky Dorkfest Main Event

As always, the main event will be held at the park right across the street from the In-N-Out just off the north end of LAX. If you’ve been before, you know how this goes. Show up, go buy a burger, watch airplanes, and talk shop with your fellow avgeeks. This year, we’ll hope LAX doesn’t decide to close 24R for maintenance like last year… not that I’m bitter. Parking can be tricky here too, but again, rideshare and transit will work as will walking from some areas if you’re willing to stretch your legs.

We will have giveaways from any airlines that participate as always, but like last year, we aren’t going to hand out raffle tickets the day of the event. You have to register in advance. It’s free, but you have to do it.

RSVP if you want to be entered in the giveaways. You can, of course, show up at the park and hang out, but if you have not RSVP‘d, you aren’t going to have a chance at the giveaways.

Hi Brett, sorry to have to bother you but I just want to check to see if you received my RSVP
yesterday for this year’s Dorkfest. I changed my email address and just wanted to make sure my response went thru.

      Thank you
      John

Not this year for me. I’ll actually be in LA two weeks before so a double dip won’t be possible. Next year…

Thank you Brett, see you on the 19th. Looking forward to the bus tours. I have taken the new shuttle from Terminal 4 to the Bradley Terminal, great views of the tarmac.

how do we know if we make it off the waitlist?

Caleb – You’ll be emailed if you make it off. We aren’t really actively managing it just yet. Now that we’re a month out, we’ll start doing that a bit more aggressively.
