I know itʻs only October, but we aim to please. Once again, weʻve made an effort to get the date set for Cranky Dorkfest 2024 extra early for you.
Cranky Dorkfest 2024 will be on Saturday, September 14
What is Cranky Dorkfest? Iʻm so glad you asked. A bunch of us get together, watch airplanes at LAX, eat burgers, and talk shop. Thatʻs it. Itʻs glorious. Here’s what it was like a couple years back when we had about 400 people attend. It was closer to 450 last year.
Hereʻs what you need to know for now:
- What: Cranky Dorkfest 2024
- When: Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 11am to 1pm PT
- Where: The park across from the In-N-Out at LAX
- Who: All are welcome, and there is no cost
- Why: Because you like watching airplanes and talking shop with fellow airline dorks
Weʻve again teamed up with NYC Aviation to make sure we’re lined up with the SpotLAX event so that you’ll have opportunities to hang out all weekend long.
If youʻve never been, just ask anyone who has come for the weekend to find out just how great it is to all hang out. Hopefully weʻll be able to get LAX to participate with some morning spotting again, but all of that remains to be seen. For now, just market your calendars and get ready to come join us next year.

If anyone’s on the fence about this, it’s worth doing at least once, even if you aren’t a hard core plane spotter or aviation geek.
The event draws lots of very fascinating and fun people from all parts of the industry, avgeek community, and country. It’s a very friendly and easygoing crowd, and it was especially fun to see the excitement on the faces of a few young avgeeks (kids) who attended with their parents.
Go to Cranky Dorkfest, or fly on a DC-3 again? Choices… choices…
