A New Cranky Talk is Live – CNA Wrap Up and a Special Announcement

Cranky Network Awards, Podcast, Southwest

Listen on Apple, Spotify, direct, or wherever you get your podcasts.

It’s been a little bit longer than normal since our last Cranky Talk, and there’s good reason for that. We’re taking Cranky Talk off any kind of set schedule going forward. It used to be every two weeks, but now we’ll record whenever we have something we want to talk about.

Or maybe there’s something you want to talk about? Email Dave here to tell him, so we end up recording another episode. He loves hearing from listeners, and that is not sarcasm.

In the meantime, Courtney Miller with Visual Approach joined us this week to wrap up the Cranky Network Awards. We go into detail on why some airlines won over others, talk about some behind-the-scenes action, and discuss just exactly who was the best dressed. (Spoiler alert: It was me. I’m the best dressed.)

  1. “The QUALITY of the Spirit [acceptance] video was TOO GOOD… So next year, Spirit, we need you to do a worse job.”

Given Spirit’s reputation as a barebones ULCC, the irony of this statement is just delicious.

  2. As an idea for a blog post or podcast episode…

For a year or two during the pandemic, it seemed like airlines were adding tons of seasonal, leisure-focused routes to outdoor destinations in the northern half of the US. The seemed to be the big trend for a while, but I haven’t heard much about it for this (upcoming, i.e. 2023) spring & summer season.

How many of those routes are still around? How many are not? If some of that flying has gone away, where have the airlines shifted the planes to? The Caribbean? Any surprises, trends, or fearless predictions for the future?
