It’s hard to believe, but we are just over a month away from Cranky Dorkfest. If you haven’t made plans to join yet, it’s time to get on it.
Cranky Dorkfest 2022 will be on Saturday, September 17
Not sure what Cranky Dorkfest is? You must be new to this site, so welcome. A bunch of us get together and watch airplanes at LAX. As an added bonus, airlines also tend to like to throw in some giveaway items, including last year’s Southwest 727 and United Boom models. Here’s what it was like last year.
This year’s goodies have started rolling in with this mystery envelope from JetBlue. What’s in it? Come out and find out. (I’m pretty sure it’s not Anthrax.)
- What: Cranky Dorkfest 2022
- When: Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 11am to 1pm PT
- Where: The park across from the In-N-Out at LAX
- Who: All are welcome, and there is no cost
- Why: Because you like watching airplanes and talking shop with fellow airline dorks
- How: I mean, usually on an airplane, but you can drive, take a long walk, ride on a pegasus… up to you
Once again, NYC Aviation will be holding its SpotLAX event the same weekend, so there will be no excuse for you not showing up. So far, there are no additional Cranky events scheduled, but if that changes, I will post here.

I know you come to the UK every few years. It’s 93 deg F (or 34 deg C) with cloudless skies in London today, and Heathrow is wide body heaven, with a huge diversity of airlines.
Perhaps we could encourage you to do a Dorkfest here ?

David – I don’t know that anyone wants to stand in the hot sun in 93 degrees! But Heathrow would be an incredible airport for a Dorkfest. There aren’t many places like LAX and Heathrow for variety. Maybe some day.
I suspect the JetBlue letter is probably a cease and desist to stop you from talking about their Spirit acquisition :)
Or perhaps a couple of $5 Spirit discount vouchers.
Cannot wait to attend my first Dorkfest. See you there!
I know what’s in the JetBlue envelope – it’s a job offer to work under Robin Hayes. So that way you can become CEO when he leaves & really improve the airline.
I’ll be there. Same as last year, first DL flight of the day in, last DL flight of the day back. Looking forward to it!
United priced me out so I wasn’t going to go but then my San Diego trip fell through and I wanted to go somewhere this year so I looked at Award travel to LAX but now a Jury Duty summons showed up starting Sept 9th. I can’t win. Next year…
I know what’s in the jetblue envelope. It’s a coupon for a free drink.
