It’s the last day of the year, so that means it’s time to look at the year in flying.
Miles: 33,378 (19,406 last year)
Segments: 36 (17 last year)
New Aircraft: none
New Airlines: FlyBe, Loganair
New Airports: Edinburgh, Islay, Hilo
Most Common Aircraft: 737-700 and 717 (6 flights each)
Most Common Airline: Hawaiian (9 segments)

Most Common Non-Directional Route: Las Vegas – Long Beach (4 segments)
It’s hard to see it on the map, but there was a whole lot of flying up and down the west coast. Of course, there was my Hawaiian adventure and my trip to Europe, and that made for what Ii’d consider to be a pretty decent year.
How’d you do?

Both records for me. Hoping to do better in 2020.
Not a milestone year for me and next year will be likely less as I’m changing jobs so I can spend more time with my daughters. Hopefully I’ll get an opportunity to spend some of those skymiles on a nice international trip.

Fun Facts:
I exclusively traveled domestically on Basic Economy tickets (except 3 Southwest segments, and one each on Spirit and Frontier) and never purchased any seat assignments. All but 3 segments were flown with my partner and we sat together on every flight only having to switch seats with people twice once on board.
Most Comfortable Flights: United’s still 3-3-3 777, the E175 flights, and on Southwest using the customer of size policy giving us a full row to ourselves.

Was my first time in an economy seat on a 777…and my first time on a business-class ticket on a 777 (last-minute paid upgrade to get out of 10-across on a newly-upgraded UA bird)…but not my first time on a 777. Back in 2017 AA mis-labelled a business class seat as Economy DFW-MIA, and I hopped right on that. Almost forgot about that flight when compiling this list. The other two 777 trips were in 3-3-3 economy so I stayed put there.
Was also my first time bus-boarding an aircraft (JFK-BEG), my first time deplaning by bus (SOF-MUC), and my first time using AUS’s South Terminal (DEN-AUS on Frontier).
Most memorable flight was absolutely the long MUC-SFO leg on the upper-deck Economy cabin of an A380. Glad I could make it onto both jumbo jets before each gets retired (I flew the 747 2x last year).

I got to fly on an AA MD80 about two weeks before retirement from DSM-DFW. It was exciting but the plane was so old, I was kind of scared in a weird way and I am not a scared flyer. I also got to fly on a Q400 between Launceston and Melbourne, which was an absolutely beautiful view!
