With United hub’s exit, Hopkins is back on the radar of other airlinesCrain’s Cleveland Business
I was asked to comment on the likelihood of other carriers looking at Cleveland to fill the void left by United’s departure. There might be some opportunity but probably not a ton. (I should also note that I never said I was an “airline sales and marketing executive” despite being cited that way.)

  1. I liked the Austin cake and I don’t like much about Texas…..lol

Seems like if UA pulls out of a CLE market, it’s because they can’t make money so why would someone else think they could. Will be interesting to see how it plays out since now CLE needs to fight for business with CVG so which downsized hub will be able to lure new business.

    1. CLE and CVG don’t compete for passengers as about four hours separate the airports by car. I think the strategies these airports now have is to attract the point to point flying that the local market can support. In the long run it should be better for CLE flyers unless they valued the nonstop flights to the markets on the chopping block. However CLE is still a big enough market to attract mainline nonstops to the top 20-30 destinations.

CVG is my home airport and it’s amazing to hear my fellow Cincinnatians still flying out of DAY, SDF, CMH, and IND. Flights from CVG are consistently cheaper than DAY now and in cases where the other airports may be a little cheaper, I’m not sure it’s worth the drive anymore.
