Airplane Porn: Spirit’s New Livery

Spirit announced its new livery today, and I’ve got some early pics for you to see. I was definitely not a fan of the old livery (it looked better before they went from the purple to black). This one is better suited for the “ultra” low cost leisure carrier that they are, I’d say, but that is still a dizzying array of colors to take in. Thoughts?

I think the new colors are hideous….who was the design shop?

I actually really like. One of the more interesting American schemes.

Definitely better than the block livery. Other than that, the tail logo makes me think of a logo for a Spanish language TV network

Spirit’s gray digital scheme is/was the best livery flying. This new scheme is a monstrosity! Absolute rubbish!

Sad. But, I guess an ULCC needs a ULCC paint scheme. Their current scheme protrays a professional image which I guess confused a lot of their customers since the airline is anything but. You can paint a Civic to look like a M35, but in the end, it’s still a Civic. At least now their paint scheme matches their corporate mission.

Hmm.. I kinda like both of them. The new one seems like it would be cheaper with only six colors versus the eleven or so for the old one..

A big step backward. But I think xpilot and Bob could have a future together–

First, as a gay man, I’m offended by the hompohobic comments exhibited by others on this blog.

Second, as someone who has done brand strategy, I think Spirit’s new livery works for what they are becoming: a leisure-focused airline serving the Carribbean. Is ti gorgeous? No. Subtle? No. Impressive? No. However, I doubt many of the people who choose to fly Spirit do so, or will do so, becuase of its livery.
