If you’ve left a comment in the last couple of days, you may have noticed some, uh, turbulence. See, the company that has powered my comment emails for years, Postmatic, seems to have just disappeared. All of a sudden, it stopped working. I sent a help request and heard nothing back. So, I had to scramble to find an alternative. While I was doing that, I found something that you’ve all been asking about for ages… the ability to edit.
1) You Can Now Edit Your Comments
If you leave a comment, you will now have 5 minutes to make any edits you want to it. There is even a countdown timer so you know where you stand.

Just click edit and you will find your original comment that can be changed however you’d like.

Messed up again? No worries, you can go back as much as you want within 5 minutes.

You’re welcome.
2) If You Subscribed to Comment Emails… We’re Working On It
We have spent a lot of time trying to export existing comment email subscriptions from Postmatic, and it has not gone well. That being said, we have finally extracted the data we need, but we’re still working on figuring out how to get that into the new system. None of the posts where you had subscribed under the legacy system will send emails until that’s fixed, so please keep it in mind.
The good news is that you can just go and re-subscribe if you want to receive emails using the new system, and it will work right away.
3) Subscribing the Emails is Easy
At the bottom of each post, you will see the comment box along with the way to sign up for emails on that post:

If you are leaving a comment, just check that box before submitting it. Or you can click the subscribe link to sign up without a comment.
4) You Can No Longer Comment By Email
One of the things I really liked about Postmatic over the years is that you could reply to the comment email and it would auto-post. That does not exist in this new system. So, I’ve put a reminder on the notification that if you reply, it just sends me an email. Don’t do that unless you mean it.

So, it’s a mixed bag but it’s largely positive. I’m just glad I was able to get any kind of system in place so people can continue to get their emails in some form. Oh, but that does bring up one other point.
5) Post Emails Are Unaffected
The Cranky post emails that get sent out daily or as a weekly digest were not sent using this system. They will continue to go as normal with no changes. The issues here only impact comment email subscriptions.
