The Cranky Flier Interview #21 – Viva Air CEO Felix Antelo

Podcast, The Cranky Flier Interview

It hasn’t been all that long since the last one, but I’m back with another Cranky Flier Interview presented by Ontario International Airport. This time, I stayed in South America with an interview with Viva Air CEO Felix Antelo.

You can listen below or download the episode.

Viva might sound somewhat familiar. I interviewed then-CEO William Shaw back in 2017. At the time, it was known as VivaColombia and there was also VivaPeru. Those still exist, but the overarching brand is now unified as Viva Air.

The airline has grown less than I would have expected we’d see since 2017, but now coming out of the pandemic, it is getting aggressive again. The airline is flying to the US — Florida, of course — and has designs on more growth to more places.

Listen to the interview now!

these challenging times. From ONT’s use of powerful antimicrobial technology and
enforcement of masks and social distancing to its opening of an on-site COVID
testing clinic for passengers and the community, the airport has been a model for
putting safety first.

  1. If Viva can do MDE-EZE (Buenos Aires) with its current fleet, that would put its realistic route range at about 3,000 miles (obviously depending on winds etc), or everything inside a rough arc from PHX to MSP, plus almost all of Mexico, with Southern California just a few hundred miles out of reach. That wouldn’t be bad, still plenty of opportunities (and the vast majority of the US population) in there.
