I Wrote Another Book – You Can Win a Copy

Admin

Long time readers of the blog know that several years ago, I wrote Where the Hell Am I Going?, a book about my literal and figurative journey after Where the Hell Am I Going Book Covergetting laid off just before my wedding. The month-long trip around the US was great for me to clear my head, and I decided to publish what I wrote on the road in 2010. (It’s still for sale if you’re interested in a quick and fun read: Amazon paperback – $14.99/Kindle – $9.99)

I loved writing that book and figured I would write another one of these days. But I didn’t predict that my next book would be something so completely different. When Globe Pequot Press asked me if I would be interested in writing a book in their “How to” series for home-based businesses, I figured it would be fun. And it was.

My book, How to Start a Home-based Blogging Business, is now for sale all over the place from Amazon to Barnes & Noble and everything in between.

Basically what I did here was write down everything I went through and considered along the way as I built Cranky Flier and Cranky Concierge into what it is today. It should be pretty easy to read and it goes step by step through various bits and pieces that will help you build your own blogging business.

Is this a definitive guide on how to startHow to Start a Home-Based Blogging Business a home-based blogging business? No. I don’t think that’s possible. There will always be a lot of different opinions on how to do things. I have, however, built a successful business this way, and I’d like to think others can as well.

To celebrate, I’m going to give away a couple copies of the book. If you’re interested, just leave a comment below and make sure to include your email address in the field as requested when you leave the comment. (It won’t be displayed to the public and you must include it to be entered.) You can say anything you want in the comment, just make sure you leave it by Thursday, March 21 at 1159pm. I will then use a random number generator to pick the two winners on Friday.

And of course, if you don’t win, the book is for sale at your local bookstore.

  1. I loved reading “Where the Hell Am I Going”. It was quick and fun, just like you said. I will definitely consider reading this one as I am currently developing a blog of my own.

  2. A proper use of the word “literal.” Hooray! Sorry – just a peeve of mine these days since it seems to have become fashionable to use it as synonym for “very” or “actually” among other atrocities. I’ll shut up now.

  3. I would love to read it and then when i have finished creating my blogging empire I will pass the book onto @airlinereporter so then he can do the same ;)

  4. This is a fantastic guide that really takes you step by step through the process of starting your own blogging business. Brett brings valuable insight and useful information right to your fingertips. It was a pleasure to work on this book as his editor and suggest if you are not lucky enough to win a copy to definitely go out and buy one!

  5. Congratulations on the new book! Enjoy the blog; hopefully will enjoy reading a winning copy of the new book too.

  6. I want to write a book. How do I start? I didn’t get laid off a week B4 my marriage.

;-) Best Wishes. working on my first Blog on a Trip – my December 2012 787 DreamLiner Nation-Wide Tour

  7. Brett: As you know I am a big fan and have thoroughly enjoyed watching your Phoenix-like rebirth. Congratulations on your success, and remember us little guys on your way up. The best is yet to come my friend.

  8. Well, as a big Cranky Fan, I couldn’t believe that I didn’t know that you previously wrote a book! I musta missed that post! So I just ordered both of them off of amazon (gotta love having a Prime Membership!) If I win, I will donate the copy to a worthy cause!

  9. Brett! Every since I found you blog, I love it and always can’t wait for the next posting. I haven’t read your first book but I’m downloading it now and looking forward to the second one. Thanks for all you do for us airline geeks!

  10. Brett,

I love the airline industry and thank you for all your useful information. I can honestly say that I have saved money on tickets because of the nuggets of info that you’ve provided. I am also an “airplane and airline nerd” and love the industry.
Thanks for the words, keep up the great work.

  11. Brett,
I would like to write a book titled “Where the hell have I just been” about all the places we go, and then ask ourselves what are we doing here, and how fast can we get out!
Ps Have not read any of your books as yet, as I’m not a big reader and my attention span is not good, as there is so much more fun things going on around us all everyday

  12. if your book is half as good as your Cranky Flier blog – it will be very entertaining / educational and a good read! Many thanks!

  13. AS I am planning on (for some time) to do a biz blog, I think your book would be great. My idea: To sell random number generators in Latin and Sanscrit so that other businesses can use them to give away stuff. Brilliant, huh?

  14. Not wanting to leave obtaining a copy of your book to chance, I purchased one of two remaining copies from Amazon (says more are on the way) – so they are indeed flying off the shelves. Anxious to read it as I do enjoy your blog!

  15. Brett – I checked out your first book on Amazon and it is hilarious to see what the Amazon algorithm offers as “other recommendations”. The word “hell” in a title does not sit well with Amazon apparently…

I did a screen grab but I can’t post a picture here. But here are some is some of it “copy/paste” style:

  28. Congrats! I cannot imagine where you found the time to write another book. What with all your posting, all the traveling for meetings, research+, and running the biz too, how is it possible to do it all and maybe sleep as well? Hope to learn the answer in the new book!
