3 Links I Love: Kirby Talks, United Should Walk, and AirAsia Gets Locked (Out)

DEN - Denver, Links I Love

Somehow this didn’t post last Friday and I just found it. So, I’m putting it live.

This week’s featured link:

One-on-one with United president Scott KirbySFGate
As always, I’m a sucker for an interview. There’s nothing particularly earth-shattering in here, but it’s always good to hear how a senior leader talks about his airline.

Image of the Week: It’s a video, to be clear, but WestJet’s April Fools joke was by far my favorite.

Two for the road:

United Airlines offers to withdraw from Coliseum naming rights deal with USCLos Angeles Times
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is a war memorial, in case you didn’t know, and now local leaders are blasting the name change to the United Airlines Memorial Coliseum. United got that name in exchange for tens of millions of dollars used to renovate the ancient stadium. I never thought this was a good use of money for United, so if this is a way that the airline can back out and keep its funds, then I’m all for it.

The Dirty Business Targeting AirAsia Indonesia Just Got DirtierSkift
In case you needed more proof that the airline industry in Indonesia is a whole different thing… AirAsia appears to have been frozen out by local online travel agencies because the airline won’t go along with Garuda and Lion Air to raise fares. That is just incredibly terrible.
