Bangkok is planning to open its new Suvarnabhumi Airport (say that three times fast) on September 28, but nobody expects them to actually be ready.
In the past, airlines have pushed for them to delay the opening until all the glitches were worked out, but they continued to press ahead according to schedule. Some airlines have even canceled a lot of flights during the first week of operation because they expect chaos.
There was more bad news today when ATW reported that the airport failed its luggage test. Some of these problems appear technical but others are training related. That’s not a good sign. This combined with other problems means that flying to Bangkok may be very difficult for awhile.
So if you’re scheduled to use Bangkok’s airport starting Sep 28, check ahead for delays and get to the airport early in anticipation of problems.

The new Suvarnabhumi airport had a rough start, then got shut down by the yellow shirts, but now its humming right along.
