Get Your Favorite Airports On a Cranky T-Shirt

Miscellaneous

If you’ve been following along on Twitter, you know I’ve been feverishly working on creating individual shirts for as many airports as I can. I’m proud to announce that the first round of The Airport Collection is ready to go.

So far, I’ve put together more than 25 airports with more to come. On the front of each shirt, you’ll find a white silhouette bird’s eye view of the terminals. On the back is a small local icon. Let’s look at some examples.

First up is probably the most coherent-looking (and oddly turtle-like) terminal. The airport’s tower is on the back. Can you name the airport?

It’s SFO. Looking for something more abstract?

What airport could look more ridiculous than Paris/CDG? It’s impressive that this somehow is all part of the same airport.

There are plenty more. Don’t forget to check out Tokyo/Narita or Haneda and Rome to see some inside blog jokes on the back. Or pick your favorite domestic hub… they’re almost all there.

You’ll find a variety of different colors and sizes. The price includes free shipping for all products. And of course, you’re supporting the Cranky team with every purchase.

Have a look at all your options and then pick one up today. Oh, and if your favorite airport is missing… send a note to cf@crankyflier.com and I’ll see what we can do.

    1. HT – They aren’t going away. This will be a permanent addition to the site and we’ll keep trying to come up with more ideas.

  1. Love to see the PIT airport shirt. Does that include some pins to stitch the landside and airside terminals together after they finish the $1.1B project to make the airport smaller?

  2. These are great- I’d like to see EWR- hey it’s nasty but it’s home. I’m working on a project at HNL and will see if I can by a sweet for my team!

  3. Great shirts! I’d like to see STL–it’s a SEA-like design in places but not much of it is used in real life.

    1. STL is an interesting layout from above. Only B and the end of C is closed off really, and much of that space is used for RON parking now. STL is my home airport by the way, and would seriously consider buying a shirt. Will other colors become available?

        1. Thanks Brett, I noticed the color options after I posted when I dug a little deeper. Couldn’t edit the comment.

    1. Yes, I had nightmare flashbacks on seeing the CDG t-shirt. Is there anything worse than connecting from a mainline flight over to the regional terminal in 2G?

  4. Funny how amersterdam looks like a swiss army knife while anchorage and boston look like geese.

Still for Tokyo, can you just sell shirts with Godzilla on them without getting sued?

    1. A_B – That is not godzilla but rather a generic monster-type creature that was designed and released into the public domain.

      1. +1 for a Godzilla’s home T-Shirt

It always makes me smile when I’m on the train on the way in from Narita that I have to be alert for monsters.

Almost makes me sad that most of my flights in the future are likely to be from Haneda.

  5. Very cool. I am surprised you didn’t put the eagle nest on the sleeve of the LAX shirt to show how out of the way it is. Your LAX experience isn’t complete until you have taken a flight through the nest.

Have you though about putting a year stamp on the shirts? That way they would always accurate to the year and then developing a series as the airport changes.

    1. Ha, I wish I could put something on the sleeve but this vendor seems to only allow text on it.

Interesting idea on the year stamp. I’ll keep that in mind, but I’m not sure how I feel abou that.

  6. This is an awesome idea CF! Looking forward to buying an LAX or DFW shirt shortly. These would even make great vinyl stickers. Was just thinking how one would look on my new iPad cover and Hydroflask. Wishing you, your family, the CF team and everyone else out there good health!

  7. So great to see the site go live! Trying to work out what ones we should order… decisions, decisions…
Two requests so we can make a decision!

    1. Could you do MSP (my wife is proudly Minnesotan and delights in educating people here in Auckland, New Zealand about the Midwest… and snow!)

    2. Any luck with putting a different image (such as an NRT or HND terminal map) on the other side of the Godzilla mug? Love the Godzilla map but another image on the reverse would be perfect :)

      1. Thanks for MSP! Terminals look great… but what is the building on the back…?

My fashion-conscious better half reckons great local icons would be the cherry and spoon statue, First Avenue nightclub, IDS Center…

Anyway please let me know when you’ve got a reply about the mugs too! Decisions, decisions :)

        1. Glen – That’s the ATC tower. I hate airports that serve two cities, because then you can’t pick one over the other.

  9. I was lukewarm until I saw you had the “Be Someone” bridge graffiti on the back of the IAH shirt! Very well-chosen local icon. Sold!

  10. Cranky, I just sent you an e-mail regarding CVG. I love my hometown airport & was shocked to see that it had been overlooked! We are losing flights, let us not loose our opportunity to be on one of CF’s t-shirts!

  11. Love this! But, mineral grey SFO is already sold out! (Large) any idea when you’ll be re-stocked?

    Thank you

    1. Raj – Not sure on that one. The mineral gray does seem to be tough for them to keep in stock, though other things seem to replenish quickly. I’ve gone and added heather black which is similar and is in stock. Hopefully that’s good?
