It’s Time for Crankyspotting Dorkfest at LAX on September 17

Admin

It’s June, and that means it’s time to set a date for this year’s Crankyspotting Dorkfest. That date? September 17 from 11a to 1p. Believe it or not, this August marks the 10th anniversary of this blog, so we’re going to make this into a giant blowout celebration…

No we’re not. That would go completely and totally against the whole point of this event.

Crankyspotting Dorkfest has a simple purpose. Come to the In-N-Out right by LAX, watch airplanes land right over your head, and talk shop with other people who love this industry. There is no special programming, no big event, no corporate sponsorship. It’s just like when you were a kid and, if you were like me, dragged your parents to the airport so you could watch airplanes fly overhead.

I hope to see you there this year.

  1. Since your Dorkfest location is a 5 hr flight for me I’ll park myself at MIA’s runway 9R and pretend I’m at the In-N-Out LAX.

  2. Of course, that’s also the date of the Dulles Day Plane Pull.

No In-n-Out Burger place; no one quite like a Cranky; but a wonderful venue for a few of us dorks to watch, and practically touch, some of the world airlines’ biggies, there on IAD’s 19C (assuming south winds). And, a C-17, a couple of DC-3s, a mobile lounge/people mover or two, and who knows what other static displays at FedEx’s apron.

  3. I am in. You sure you don’t want to do it later in the day so I can fly down from OAK on Boutique Air ?

  4. Fri. 5:30 pm, Denver time.

    Re: Cranky Dorkfest at LAX…

I see one way flights DEN to LAX on Southwest for $ 54. right now, all day long, on Sat. 17 Sept.

DEN to BUR, same date, one way is $ 132. all day, on WN.

Who started this fare war ??

    The Brit’s pulling out of the E. U. ??

One Spirit flight is $ 54. one way.

Frontier and United are $ 89. one way.

    1. That is a really busy market with 6 different airlines flying the route.
I’m not surprised to see fares so low, so now take advantage of it!

      1. Brett,

I am in, landing at LAX on Sat. 17 Sept at 10:20 am, from DEN, for $ 54. one way on Southwest. I actually used 2,600 of my wife’s points for the trip.

Hope the walk to In N Out is not too far…

Is the location on NW corner of Sepulveda & 92nd; N of LAX Airport ?

9149 S Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045

Now, (Sat., 12:30 pm DEN time), 6 non stop flights on that Sat on WN are still $ 54. one way.

Looking forward to my first Dorkfest…

        1. It’s not a terrible walk from Terminal 1, and yes the address is right.
But if you’d rather not walk it, you can sign up for the Parking Spot frequent parker program and then you can ride the free shuttle. Honestly though, it’s probably faster to walk from Terminal 1.

  5. When I used to travel to LA years ago, in my spare time, I would plane watch from an elevated road above the Imperial Highway in El Segundo. Is that still there?
