My Book “Where the Hell Am I Going?” Will be Available for Purchase Soon

Admin

Remember long ago when I asked you all for information on what you’d Where the Hell Am I Goingbe willing to pay for here? Many of you said a book, and now I’ve got one. Let me introduce “Where the Hell Am I Going?” It will be available for purchase in the next couple of weeks for a mere $14.99.

You might be surprised to find that this book doesn’t center around the airlines. (That’s another book I’m working on.) Instead it’s a combination of two things.

On one hand, it’s a travelogue on the trip around the country that I took after getting laid off from my job in 2008. On the other hand, it’s a look at what runs through the head of a guy who just got married and just lost his job. As the title says, I was trying to figure out where I was going.

Don’t worry, it’s still funny and snarky, or so those who’ve read it have told me. And yes, there is some airplane talk in there. Here’s how I’m explaining it on the back cover:

In September 2008, right before his wedding, Brett Snyder lost his job. Instead of jumping back into the job pool like a responsible new husband, he hit the road for a three week adventure. In “Where the Hell Am I Going?” Brett Combines his snarky wit with introspection to create a truly funny and heartfelt read. Follow along as he circles around the country and literally and figuratively tries to figure out where the hell he is, in fact, going.

This book has been in progress for awhile, and I now think it’s the right time to get it out there. A lot of people have lost their jobs in the last couple of years and gone through the same thought process that I had to go through. But I make it funny. And I throw in some good stories. At least, I think they’re good.

So, watch this space, as they say. I’ll put up a post when it’s ready to go.

  1. You should probably talk to your local public library as well, and see how they make decisions about what books to buy: A lot of other libraries probably also use the same system/procedures…

  2. I think I’d read that. It’s like the opposite of “Up In The Air”.

Maybe post the first chapter (or a portion of it) for us here prior to release?

    1. Hmm, that’s a good idea. I’ll look at posting that when it’s live on Kindle. The chapters aren’t very long, but it’ll give you a good look at what to expect.

  3. Surely you have a book coming out with a compilation of your daily blogs, plus our “brilliant” comments. What more material do you need to become a best seller?

    1. I’ve actually been looking at some of this to see how I could turn blog posts into a book. I have some ideas. Might be a fun coffee table read.

  4. Congrats on getting a book published! That is no small feat!

Idea: to generate more publicity and get the word out further, consider having some sort of contest on your blog – winner gets a free copy. Based on previous contests you (and SWA) have had, I have no chance of winning – not creative enough. But it’s always enjoyable to see what other people come up with! :)

    1. Well, it is a smaller feat than usual since it’s self-published, but just writing it was no easy task! I like the giveaway idea.

  5. I’m looking forward to it, but I wonder if it’ll get any play in libraries given the swear word in the title. On the west coast, I think it’ll be fine, but in the midwest it won’t make into the libraries, and a bunch of bookstores will bypass it as well.

    1. That’s a joke, right? You think in 2010 the word “hell” would get a book banned from a library in the Midwest? Your opinions are so misinformed and outdated and generalized (as if “the Midwest” was some cohesive unit, or as if there aren’t arch-conservative places on either coast) as to be laughable. So I laugh at you.

      1. I wasn’t joking.

I used to live in the Midwest (specifically Southwest Ohio) but been out of the area for about three years, but I feel that my prediction is accurate.

I know the Midwest isn’t a cohesive unit, but it definitely has cultural characteristics that tie it together. My impressions of the area have been colored by my own personal interactions, including some homicidal actions directed at me. Yes, this was five years ago, but the attitudes from which behavior like this come from were evident through my time living there.

Finally, I didn’t say banned, I said “play” by which I really intended to say I think there are many libraries that will choose not to buy it.

      1. Cool. I’m surprised it got up that quickly. There will be a Kindle version. Should be hopefully up in the next couple days.

  6. wow if Amazon has it that means you’re real…..lol

Maybe it will be made into a movie, a road trip film like Thelma & Louise. Now what actor should play Brett in the movie?

      1. A virtual book signing would be where your avid followers send their book to a post box with self-addressed stamped return packaging. You sign the book and send it back to them. Not as interactive as the real thing, but given your distributed fan base it might be the best route.

    1. Hmm, I called CreateSpace and they confirmed that they’re having some issues with availability on Amazon. It can’t be out of stock since it’s print-on-demand, but hopefully it’ll be fixed soon.

      1. I’ve never heard of print on demand and looked up CreateSpace. How very interesting. I’ll have to check them out more tonight after work. Maybe I can get my cousin to finish the book she started writing about three husbands ago….lol

  7. Ok, it’s back up on Amazon after CreateSpace had some difficulty. It is, however, down on the Kindle for 24 hours. Amazon just released a new royalty structure for Kindle that means I can lower the price to $9.99 and actually keep more on each book. So that will be up in 24 hours.
