Rob – Yes, it’s only a holiday this year because the 4th is on a Saturday. Next year when the 4th is on a Sunday, the 5th will be a holiday. That’s the way the federal govt recognizes all date-specific holidays, at least.

Great post! haha I’m not sure I could spend that long on a plane and I love aviation!
But the holiday part is new to me: I never thought the 3rd was a holiday too..but then again here in new york a couple of places were already setting off fireworks today. Is it just because it falls on a saturday this year?

And, as Nick said, Happy 4th to everyone, regardless of nationality.

I still celebrate the 4th even though we relinquished responsibility of this land some years ago – I go round to our friends with my Union Jack just to let them know that we have not all left!
